Johnson Family to Brazil

Johnsons to Brazil

We hope that you had a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! For us, the year ended in a whirlwind and 2023 promises more of the same.

Let me start off by explaining something that was a concern for a lot of people from our last letter. Many people reached out to us wondering why we did not give an update on Naomi’s health and what that might mean. We had decided to try not to dominate each letter with her health situation, and to pass along information only when something changed. There was no new information and there was so much that God was doing to report on that we did not mention anything. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused. For the most part, Naomi’s condition continues unchanged. We did try a new treatment in December that some studies reported as effective, but there was no change to her condition. Don’t be discouraged; we are not! God is in control and His grace is sufficient.

God has truly been working here in the past few weeks. We were blessed by the attendance during
our mission’s conference as it exceeded expectations, and we averaged about 50 people per night. We were able to have two Brazilian church planters with us presenting the works that God has called them to do. As I had mentioned before, we were also explaining faith promise and taking commitments for the first time. We were hoping to receive commitments of at least R$300,00, which is enough to start supporting those two missionaries at R$100,00 per month (about $20.00 each), and to take on another new missionary. Imagine our surprise when our commitments reached R$760,00 per month! Please pray that God will allow the fulfillment of those commitments to match the desire.

We also had two incredible Christmas services, on the Wednesday before Christmas, and Christmas day. The Wednesday before Christmas was our living nativity for which we had our third-highest attendance of the year with 79 people. That attendance was topped by our Christmas day service, with our second- highest attendance of 84 people. We had visitors on both nights, and several people raised their hands for salvation. God truly worked in a special way!

Our theme for this year is “One by One,” and we are praying that God continues to bring people in, save them, and add them to the church in 2023. Thank you for your continued prayers!
