McCollum Family to Germany

McCollums to Germany

The first quarter of 2022 has brought about many changes in our world. As with most places, we have also seen the effects. With the recent removal of COVID restrictions, we are glad that normal life has returned.

In the first few months of the year, we have seen a few new people join the church and many visitors have been coming since the COVID restrictions were lifted in March.

In February, we were saddened by the news of the beginning of the war in the Ukraine. Since then, we have begun to see some Ukrainian refugees attending our services. Two of these Refugees are Nigerian men who moved to Ukraine and one of them married while there. Both of these men speak English and Ukrainian. However, the wife and children speak Ukrainian and Russian. As we are preaching in German, the message is being translated to English and secondarily translated into Russian. As of the writing of this letter, we have purchased some tech equipment with headsets to allow us to translate more quickly and quietly during the services. We have several church members who have a German-Russian heritage who have let us know that they are able to help with translation. We know for certain that Matthew is saved. Please pray for his wife (a strong atheist) to be saved. She has attended the last few Sundays.

On January 29, we held a Family Workshop event with several breakout sessions on various themes about the Christian home. This event was well attended, and we had a lot of good feedback on the information that was given.

In February, we began our monthly meetings with our Grade schoolers and teens. In our Jungschar (grade school), we have installed a new rewards program that will last the entire year. The children can earn points for bringing a Bible, bringing a visitor, learning verses, completing devotional work, and overall character. We are praying that God will use this to motivate our youth to strengthen their relationship with the Lord. We have recently seen two accept Christ as saviour in our Wednesday night Kids’ group, and we are praying that many more of them will be soon. Our children are the future and it is important that we invest in them spiritually. We have recently seen two accept Christ as saviour.

In February and March, we hosted Dany and Simone Zamora who were traveling through Europe to raise support as missionaries to Israel. Bro. Zamora is a degreed artist and was able to lend his talents to paint a brand new mural for our church nursery during their stay. Please pray for this family as they have a goal to be on the field by October 2022.

Every year in March, we set a day aside for a fun-filled themed church event. This year, our event was themed “Spaß und Spiele” or “Fun & Games” and had a board game motif. Because the theme had a feeling of a game night with the family, we were able to enjoy pizza, lil’ smokies, and other normal “fun day” foods. The event was well attended by our church family and it was fun to see people being competitive in the game times, especially the timed giant connect four and timed giant scrabble games.

On Tuesday of Easter week, we observed the Lord’s Table with our church family. On Wednesday morning through Friday morning, Caleb and Ed, along with three of our church men drove five hours away to Leutkirch im Allgäu. While there, the men preached and provided the music for the annual Easter Online Conference. This was the first year that we were able to stream the event from a single location with a live crowd included. The Lord blessed this event with several thousand views and up to 40 or so in the live crowds.

After this trip, Caleb was able to preach on Friday night on the topic “So ist Versöhnung” or “This is Reconciliation”.

Easter Sunday was a blessing as we celebrated the resurrected Saviour with a full house. God blessed the special music and the message.

On June 17-18 we will be hosting our second ever Couple’s Retreat. We have chosen Oberhausen as our destination with a large shopping mall, many restaurants, and attractions in the area. We have reserved a private room in a steakhouse for dinner and our opening session on Friday night. We will be having three session at the hotel on that Saturday before an optional group activity on Saturday. Please pray that God will use this event to strengthen marriages and homes as Caleb and Alicia will be leading and teaching the sessions this year.

Family Camp, our largest event of the year, is approaching in July. Please pray as we have a record number of registrants for this year’s camp. Planning is underway and we are praying for families to be strengthened.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. We look forward to what the Lord has for us in the second quarter. May God bless each of you for you faithful support and prayers.
